ONYX BOOX Poke 2 Color eReader :: ONYX BOOX electronic books

The ONYX BOOX Poke 2 Color is the first device in the manufacturer's range with a color screen of the E Ink Kaleido "electronic paper" type. The reader has a compact lightweight case of only 6.8 mm of thickness and is equipped with a high-performance 8 core processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules and is operated under the Android 9.0 operating system.

What is E Ink Kaleido

E Ink Kaleido is a new generation of screens made using "electronic paper" technology allowing you to display up to 4096 colors. Thanks to the possibility to display a palette, this screen is convenient for reading educational literature and books with illustrations. The pixel density is 300 dpi in black-and-white mode and 100 dpi in color mode. Reading on this screen is as comfortable as reading from the page of a good paper book.

Screen frontlight system

The MOON Light technology allows you to use the device in the dark or under poor lighting conditions. When this function is in use, soft luminescence of the screen comfortable for reading in dark rooms and safe for your sight is being generated. And thanks to the use of Flicker-Free technology this front-light system is perfectly smooth.

What is MOON Light?

MOON Light technique uses a reflective light distribution. The light-conducting layer is located over the display. The light goes through this layer and is reflected towards the screen being absorbed by the dark elements of the image and then this reflected light enters the eyes. On sensations this light is similar to the reflected light from an external source. This kind of lighting is significantly more comfortable for reading than backlit LCD displays.

Capacitive Multi-touch screen

Capacitive sensor, supporting a Multi-touch function, provides an easy control with fingers - you can scroll pages with a slight finger touch, make notes in the text, zoom with two fingers and use other different options.

Outstanding technical specifications

The 8-core Qualcom processor with 2 GHz clock rate and 2 GB of RAM ensures comfortable work with difficult documents. And 32 GB of nonvolatile memory allows the user to store a whole library.

Bluetooth module

Thanks to a built-in Bluetooth module of 4.1 standard you can connect an external keyboard or wireless earphones for listening audio books.

OTG

The device supports OTG and a USB jack, which allow you to connect additional peripherals that do not require the installation of additional drivers.

Handy recording of ebooks into the memory

In addition to the standard way of copying ebooks with the help of a USB cable, you can transfer them via Bluetooth or a Wi-Fi channel when connected to the Internet. Also a new cloud PUSH service "Send2boox" is available.

Format support

The BOOX software allows the user to open files of various text and graphic formats. When reading you can change font style and size, disposition of pages, insert bookmarks, add your own fonts and zoom documents at your will.

Dictionaries

ONYX BOOX Poke 2 Color allows you to translate a word choosing it in the text. In addition, the Google's online translator for text fragments is supported.

Additional programs

The Poke 2 Color allows you to install third-party reading programs using the potentials of the Android 9 platform.

Low power consumption of the E-Ink display and the battery capacity of 1500 mAh provides long-lasting autonomous work.

The BOOX allows the user to read documents in different world languages. Amongst them there are such languages as Russian, English, German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Swedish, Chinese, Japanese and many others.

Note: Since a part of the Flash memory size is system software, the portion available to the user is less than the total size of the memory chip.

The device is designed primarily for reading electronic books, but has some additional features which are defined by the installed software. For example, the current firmware has functions such as calendar, dictionary, access to the Internet, and others.
The device is freely reprogrammable on request of the user who can install, delete and create programs.
The device is equipped with a battery providing long autonomous usage.

Setup

Download the firmware update.upx file onto your PC.
Charge the device battery at least up to 50%.
Connect your ereader to your PC via a USB cable.
Copy this update.upx file into your device into the root directory of the internal memory via a USB cable.
From the main page of the eReader go to Settings > Firmware Update > Check for updates.
There will appear the question: "New update package found. Do you want to update?". Choose "OK".
Updating process will start. It will last for about 8 minutes.
Wait till the user interface starts.
