ONYX BOOX Amundsen is a device for reading electronic books and is part of a series dedicated to the great travelers and discoverers. This model is designed for those who are planning to use it primarily for reading and who don't need a variety of additional functions. Its great high-contrast E Ink Carta screen makes reading comfortable and not tiring even during long usage. 8 GB of internal memory allow the user to store a vast library in one device.

What is E Ink Carta?

E Ink Carta is the latest development of E Ink company. This display is made on the "electronic paper" technology and allows you to read as comfortably as on ordinary paper pages. Compared to previous generations of ePaper, this screen has a lighter base and higher contrast.

The screen of the latest generation E Ink Carta with a diagonal of 6" has a lighter base and higher contrast than other screens of the type. It makes the text readable in bright sunlight and has a high rate of a screen refresh. The absence of shimmering light and the principle of image formation with the E Ink method makes reading comfortable for your eyes.

Format support

The BOOX software allows the user to open files of various text and graphic formats. When reading you can change font style and size, disposition of pages, insert bookmarks, add your own fonts and zoom documents at your will.

Built-in dictionaries

There are pre-installed English-Russian and Russian-English dictionaries in this model. To translate an unknown word just choose it in the text.

Reprogramming option

The model allows the user to write personal software using the Android 4.2 options.

Continuous work

Low power consumption of E-Ink displays and battery capacity of 3000 mAh provides up to a month of autonomous work.

Language support

The BOOX allows the user to read documents in different world languages. Amongst them there are such languages as Russian, English, German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Swedish, Chinese, Japanese and many others.

Note: Since a part of the Flash memory size is system software, the portion available to the user is less than the total size of the memory chip.

The device is designed primarily for reading electronic books, but has some additional features which are defined by the installed software. For example, the current firmware has functions such as calendar, dictionary, access to the Internet, and others.
The device is freely reprogrammable on request of the user who can install, delete and create programs.
The device has a battery that provides long, autonomous usage.

Setup

Download the firmware file on your PC.
Charge the device battery at least up to 50%.
Copy the .zip file onto your device into the root directory of the internal memory via a USB cable. Then disconnect the cable.
Connect an AC charger to the device and then to a power supply source.
From the main page of the eReader go to Settings > About > System Update > Check update from local storage.
There will be a question: "New update package found,do you want to update?". Choose "OK".
Updating process will start. It lasts for about 5 minutes.
If there appears the system menu in the process, select Reboot Now with the help of the side buttons and confirm your choice with a short press of the Power button.
Wait till the user interface starts.
Remove the installation file of the firmware after the eReader turns on.
After the procedure, go again to Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset > Reset device and Erase everything. This procedure is necessary to make the device work properly.
